Go Fish is a how to guide to help beginner anglers learn how to plan, prepare, and pursue their fishing dreams. The instruction manual covers the basic information about everything you need to know about fishing. However, this manual is convoluted in the senses that the visuals are abstracted and depict what fishing is to the AI.
I initially was inspired by the many survival guides, fishing manuals, and national geographic magazines that I read when I was young. I was going to make a fishing how to book (like Dummies of fishing) that would use a short story to convey fishing techniques. Along the way, I would also sprink in life lessons like patience and perseverance in a children’s book way. This idea evolved to become a synthesis of exploration of AI image generation, as I deviated from purely a how to guide to a fishing artbook mix. Fishing was deeply meditative practice, and I saw a mirroring between fishing and AI imaging. I would research specific points that I wanted the book to have. I would then have ChatGPT add more volume to my chapter titles. I then would convert the text into a poem and feed it back to Midjourney to synthesize images. I thought it was interesting that I was essentially being an angler and fishing to the latent space for the images that I wanted to find.
